Now just to add strings and see how she plays. More pics after gap.

Looks great! What did you use for pick ups? You wind them yourself like Eddie did?

Looks great.
Flashbacks, I has them. That pattern was on EVERYTHING I had when I was in high school. Book covers, notebooks, etc..... I even painted a 1:1 mural of that on my bedroom wall.
Ever seen this ad?
The ad was so awesome, that I did this in 1985 once I bought the "right" guitar.

I bought a PAF replica from a boutique pickup maker. The pickup is normally $80, but I got it from the maker used for $10.

I can't find a picture of it, but my bedroom wall in my old house was painted in that pattern too. I made shoes a few years ago.

This is my current luthery project (god knows I have too many). This is from a few months back. I've finished the neck, and am in the final stage of the project, assembly. Once it's done, I'll post a thing here on Oppo. It has a car on it (I think...)

That's awesome!

Nice job! I was wondering when you were going to post another update. Here's the bass I put together back in '04. Not as much effort as you put in to yours, so I guess I'm backing up a bass player stereotype... I made the pickguard out of plexiglass and for some reason there was a hole in the body, so I put a dime in it.

This is full of win.

I love it! Thanks for keeping us in the loop. I like to live vicariously through people such as yourself.

I was stuck as far as progress on my car was concerned, so I figured might as well work on a guitar.
Beautiful man! The plexiglass idea was genius, you can see the awesome blue color without worrying about scratching it.

30 years later, and I still have it*. Great guitar. Back in the 80's the overseas knockoffs were actually quality.
*Of course, after new DiMarzios, pot, and wiring. As a young practicing musicians I only had money for knockoffs, and then modify them as I got money.

That is just epic! Can I peste-, I mean ask you about what VH songs you like?

Thanks! Yeah i really liked the blue and i didn't want to hide it with a black or white pickguard. Good luck with your car now that you're done with the guitar.

I love VHI and II, Diver Down, and 1984. I don't really like a lot of their later (VHIII, etc) stuff. I saw them in concert back in '07 and I'm pretty sure I was the youngest person there. It was by far the best concert I have ever been to.

Yo Saabstory, this is like 2 years later or whatever, but how did that turnout?

Haha
Really really well! I was incredibly pleased with it. I played it a bit, but I gave it to my friend whose house (and guitars) burned down last year. I wired in a fuzz circuit and some clipping diodes as well as a booster, coil taps and phase switching. It’s pretty bonkers, maybe a little too for my sensibilities! Lemme see if there are any pictures of him playing it in his band online. If so I will post em here.

Cool, thanks! I’ve got a spare tele body lying around and I’m trying to gather ideas.

Thanks, this is my current build... should turn out interesting at least

That is supremely cool. Did you laminate it yourself?

I cut 40 separate pieces of wood, glued it together, and then leveled it to 1 3/4” thick

That’s beyond cool. What sorta wood is it?

Just some scrap pine 2x6s that I had. Didn’t want to sink money into it unless I knew it would turn out. I was going for something like this: http://wallacedetroitguitars.com/the-guitars/pu…

I’d have to say it’s a resounding success! I’d leave the pickguard off if I were you to put that excellent lamination on display.

Haha thanks! I think I’ll put it on because I messed up the routing for the neck pickup oops!
